Ivan Toney’s knee injury is not “significant” and the striker is in contention for Brentford’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Monday.

Toney, 26, sustained the injury during Brentford’s 2-0 win over West Ham United on Friday.

Toney scored and assisted in that match but had to be taken off on a stretcher due to his injury.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank then gave an update on Toney’s condition on Sunday.

Frank said: “There is good news with Ivan. It’s no significant injury. It is potentially possible that he could be available tomorrow.

“Nothing wrong with the knee. Without going into too much detail, something around the (leg) muscle. Like a hit there. There’s no significant injury there.

“The physios explained it in detail and I completely forgot. I just remembered it was not as serious.”

Toney, however, did not participate in training on Sunday ahead of the Liverpool game.

“He hasn’t taken part in training,” Frank added. “It’s not the first time with a short turn around. The day after a game is always recovery. Today, it’s a very light tactical training. But if some (players) are borderline then you rest them if they are very important and you have them available for the day after. Ivan is in that category, but let’s see for tomorrow.”

Toney has been in strong form for Brentford this season, with his goal against West Ham his 12th of the season in 16 Premier League matches.

After the visit of Liverpool, Brentford again face West Ham, this time in the FA Cup third round. Their next league match is a home fixture against Bournemouth on January 14.
